Palak vadi recipe a healthy option for all kids and all people .we always eat palak or spinach as dal, curry or paratha but after my marriage, my mother in law make one day this palak vadi and asked me how is it taste
I tasted and it was so yummy, tasty nice flavor of spinach and very easy recipe.
She taught me how to cook palak vadi. It is her recipe to feed her kids a nice good amount of spinach in their daily routine.

Palak vadi is a healthy recipe as it is full of palak or spinach and whole wheat flour.
It is best for kids who don’t like to eat spinach as they can not see any spinach inside.
Palak or spinach is a great source for carbohydrates, protein, vitamin A and iron. Eating spinach is a good habit. I always cook spinach rolls or palak vadi as my husband loves it and its good for my son.
Palak vadi is easy to make just we need to make a simple spinach dough and steam it. I always prefer to eat palak vadi as just steamed and fried.
You can make palak vadi in 3 forms
- steam palak vadi
- Pour tadka on palak vadi
- Shallow fry palak vadi
Please note – Never deep fry palak vadi as it will be more oily.

Step by Step Photo guide of how to make palak vadi or Spinach rolls.
Chop spinach finely.
In a bowl take whole wheat flour.
Next add besan in that.
Now add chilli powder.
Add turmeric powder.
Now pour hot oil.
Mix well .
Lastly add hot water.
Knead a soft dough.
Add little Oil to make dough soft and again knead it.
Make 2 equal part of palak dough .
Now shape cylindrical palak roll.
Now in a pan add water and keep bamboo steamer .
Keep butter paper in steamer and Keep spinach roll .
Let spinach roll steam for 10 minutes .
After 10 minutes take out spinach roll
Let it cool down and cut spinach roll into small disc.
Fried Palak vadi or Spinach roll
Now in a pan add oil .
Once oil is hot keep spinach roll in oil .
Let it shallow fry for 2-3 minutes and Flip side of vadi and cook from another side .
Palak vadi is ready.
Palak Vadi recipe card
- Spinach 1 cup
- Whole wheat flour 1 cup
- Besan or chickpea flour 2 tbs
- Oil 2-3 tbs
- Sesame seed 1 tbs
- Chilli powder 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Salt as per taste
- Chop spinach finely.
- In a bowl take whole wheat flour.
- Add spinach
- Next, add besan in that.
- Now pour hot oil.
- Mix well.
- Now add chili powder.
- Add turmeric powder.
- Now add salt.
- Mix well
- Lastly, add hot water.

- Now shape cylindrical palak roll.
- Now in a pan add water and keep bamboo steamer.
- Keep butter paper in the steamer .
- Keep spinach roll.
- Let spinach roll steam for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes take out spinach roll
- Let it cool down.
- Now cut spinach roll into a small disc.
- Now in a pan add oil.
- Once the oil is hot keep spinach roll in oil.
- Let it shallow fry for 2-3 minutes.
- The flipside of vadi.
- And cook from another side.
- Palak vadi is ready.
- You can add any flour in palak vadi.
- You can add ginger, garlic paste.
- If you want to eat healthy palak vadi do nit shallow fry.
